Pausing to Reflect and Celebrate Your Year
Dec 23, 2024The holiday season is here, and as we inch closer to the end of the year, now can be the perfect moment to step back and reflect on the year you've just had. Over twenty years as a coach and trainer, I’ve learned that this time of year isn’t just about winding down—it’s about appreciating how far you’ve come before bidding it farewell and looking towards a New Year.
Three Little Questions
A lovely exercise my colleague Sharon Lawton, head of training at The Coaching Academy, shared with my colleagues and me in our WhatsApp group on Friday was to consider these three little questions:
- Describe your 2024 in one word...
- Who are you grateful to or for this year...
- What's one skill you've improved in the last twelve months...
A Season of Connection
The holiday season is also a time to connect [or reconnect] with friends, family...and your audience. Remember, your community isn’t looking for perfection; they’re looking for connection. So, if you do reach out, share your stories from the past twelve months, the challenges you met, the challenges you've overcome, and, of course, something about where you are now towards the end of the year. A simple message, whether a “Happy Holidays” email, a Hanukkah greeting, or just warm wishes for the season, can strengthen relationships and remind your audience why they trust you.
Embracing the Moment
As you enjoy the season, allow yourself the grace to simply be present. The hustle and bustle of the year can make it easy to always focus on what’s next, but this time of year is a chance to pause and appreciate the here and now. Whether it’s a quiet evening with loved ones, lighting a candle, or a moment of solitude to recharge, these small, meaningful experiences are what fuel your creativity and passion.
A Note of Gratitude from Me
Finally, I want to say thank you. Whether you’ve followed my content, joined a programme, or read this blog, I am deeply grateful. This year, I’ve seen so many people push through challenges, embrace new opportunities, and create real, lasting change in their lives. They and you inspire me every day.
So, as you wrap up the year and enjoy a well-deserved break, remember this: You’re making a difference. The work you do matters, and the best is yet to come.
I wish you a joyful holiday season and all the best as we close the year!
