You’ve Got This: A Letter for When You Need It Most
Dec 06, 2024Let’s face it—life throws curveballs. Sometimes, it’s just downright hard—the kind of hard that makes you question yourself, your choices, and maybe even your worth.
But here’s the thing: what feels overwhelming to you might not seem like much to someone else. Equally, what’s a breeze for you could be someone else’s mountain. No matter the shape or size of the challenge, there’s usually one thing tough times have in common—they shake our confidence.
Ever caught yourself thinking:
- I can’t do this.
- I’m not cut out for this.
- What if everyone realizes I have no idea what I’m doing?
If you have, believe me, you’re not alone.
I’ve been a coach for over twenty years, and even now, those sneaky little doubts and curved balls occasionally creep in - such as this last couple of weeks, which prompted me to write this, for you, and for me, too. I used to believe success would banish self-doubt and that once I reached a certain level of achievement, I’d feel bulletproof.
But, spoiler alert: it doesn’t work that way. Self-doubt doesn’t disappear—it just shifts shape.
So, what keeps me moving forward when doubt whispers in my ear?
Well, it’s two things mainly: the confidence others have in me, and eventually, the confidence I rediscover within myself.
For me, it’s the people who remind me of my strength, even when I’m doubting myself and forgetting that I have it. My partner, who points out the distance I’ve travelled and the mountains I’ve climbed (metaphorically, obviously, as I'm nervous of hights!). And it's my clients and friends—fellow coaches, creators, and changemakers like you—who share your wins and trust me to be part of your journey.
Your stories, your breakthroughs—they light the way back to my own confidence. They remind me that I’ve faced challenges before and found solutions, and I can do it again.
So, here’s what I want to pass on to you today:
You're not alone. No man, no woman - none of us are islands.
No matter what you might be facing right now—whether it’s a setback, a new challenge, or you're having a rough day—you have what it takes to make it through.
That voice inside you, the one urging you to keep going even when it feels impossible? Listen to it.
Take the next step, even if it’s tiny:
- Write that email.
- Make that call.
- Take that one small action towards your dream - the one you've been putting off or doubting you can achieve.
Because a truth I've learned after working with thousands of people (including myself) over the years is this; we're usually more capable than we ever give ourselves credit for or allow ourselves to believe we can achieve. Every storm eventually runs out of rain. Every challenging moment you endure shapes a stronger, more resilient version of you.
You can do this.
And when the doubt creeps back in (because it will), maybe remember this little email, and know that someone out there is rooting for you—me.
You’ve got this. I’m in your corner, cheering you on, every step of the way.
